1. Introduction

Dave Tanquary ("we," "us," "our") operates WineVision, a mobile application for iOS. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our app.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices. WineVision is designed with a privacy-first approach — we collect only the minimum information necessary to provide our service.

2. Information We Collect

We collect minimal information necessary to provide our service:

• Device Identifier: When you first use WineVision, a unique, anonymized identifier is generated from your device. This identifier cannot be used to identify you personally. It is used solely for rate limiting and subscription management.
• Wine Label Text: When you scan a wine bottle, the text recognized from the label is sent to our servers to identify the wine and retrieve ratings. Only the extracted text is transmitted — the camera image itself is never uploaded.
• Subscription Status: If you subscribe to a premium plan, Apple manages your subscription through the App Store. We receive confirmation of your subscription tier but do not have access to your payment information.
• Contact Information: If you contact us through the app, we collect the email address and message you provide solely to respond to your inquiry.

3. Information We Do Not Collect

WineVision is designed with privacy as a core principle. We want to be explicit about what we do not do:

• We do not collect your name, phone number, or physical address
• We do not use analytics frameworks or crash reporting services
• We do not collect advertising identifiers (IDFA)
• We do not track your location
• We do not build user profiles or behavioral models
• Camera images are processed entirely on your device and are never transmitted to our servers
• Your wine history and favorites are stored only on your device and in your personal iCloud account

4. How We Use Information

• Wine Identification: Wine label text is sent to our backend server, which forwards it to an AI service for wine identification and rating retrieval. Results may be cached on our servers for up to 24 hours to improve response times for the same wine.
• Rate Limiting: Your anonymized device identifier is used to enforce usage quotas (scan limits) and verify subscription status.
• Contact Responses: Contact form submissions are used solely to respond to your inquiry.

5. Data Storage and Security

• Your wine history is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.
• If you have iCloud enabled, your wine history syncs across your devices using Apple's CloudKit. This data is governed by Apple's privacy policies.
• Our backend servers are hosted on Cloudflare's global network. Wine lookup results are cached temporarily and do not contain personal information.
• We use industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS) for all data transmitted between the app and our servers.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate WineVision:

• Cloudflare (cloudflare.com): Backend infrastructure, caching, and content delivery. Cloudflare may process server logs containing IP addresses per their privacy policy.
• Google AI (Gemini): Wine identification service. Receives wine label text only — no personal or device information is transmitted.
• Apple: iCloud (data sync), StoreKit (subscription management), App Store (distribution). Governed by Apple's privacy policies.

We do not share, sell, or rent your personal information to any third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

7. Children's Privacy

WineVision is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us through the app and we will promptly delete it.

8. Data Retention

• Wine label text cached on our servers is automatically deleted after 24 hours.
• Your wine history on your device persists until you manually delete it within the app.
• Contact form submissions are retained for up to 30 days to allow us to respond, then deleted.
• Anonymized device identifiers and usage counts are retained as long as your account exists.

9. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your data:

• You can delete your wine history directly within the app at any time.
• You can request deletion of any data associated with your device identifier by contacting us through the app.
• You can manage your iCloud data through Apple's iCloud settings.
• You can cancel your subscription at any time through iOS Settings → Subscriptions.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of WineVision after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
